KAP summative assessments measure student knowledge against the Kansas College and Career Ready Standards. Summative assessments are taken at the end of the school year, are entirely computer based, and are used in the state accountability system.
Summative assessments provide information about the depth and breadth of what students have learned. Because summative assessments are given at the end of a course of instruction, they do not directly affect students’ learning; rather, summative assessments can aid in reviewing curriculum and instruction to improve future students’ learning. Summative assessment information can also illustrate program strengths and help identify areas where professional development can help improve teaching and learning.
